Michael’s work concerns itself with the Urban Landscape that surrounds us in our everyday lives and which we take for granted, yet which has a singular poetry of it’s own.
His art addresses issues of the environment and our interaction with it, and the tensions that exist between town and country. His work portrays large concrete buildings and structures sitting uneasily in the surrounding countryside, which is threatened by their bulk. But at the same time glimpses of the natural environment may be seen through the gaps and openings of the buildings, and form unique small landscapes in their own right .
Michael’s work has affinities with contemporary artists such as Edward Hopper and Robert Betchle who treat similar themes of urban environment and the issues of contemporary society bringing a technically classical approach to contemporary issues.
