British artist Samira Harris recreates Botticelli’s Venus to raise awareness of breast cancer. She used more than a thousand photographs including the faces of people affected by the disease to create the giant 6ft by 5ft artwork, which will be auctioned to raise funds for breast cancer charities.
The 1,096 photographs used in the artwork represent the number of people diagnosed with the disease in Europe every day. Twenty of those photographs will be displayed on the big screen at Piccadilly Circus as part of the European Breast Health Awareness campaign during October.
Also in support of the campaign the profits from all limited edition prints of other works by the artist Samira Harris sold this month through the Berkshire-based online gallery www.stylecube.co.uk will be donated to Cancer Research UK.
